Kaya was founded by Tanimura Naoki-san in 1992. After having apprenticeships with Master Carpenters all over Japan, from Nara to Kyoto to Hokkaido, Tanimura-san choose scenic Niseko, Hokkaido as his home. With his passionate love and respect for nature and the art of "Daiku", it is Kaya's vision and goal to preserve the ancient ways of the Japanese master carpenter.
While utilizing modern ideas and technology, Kaya still uses the Old ways of kobiki and sukuibiki, which means to rip or cut the logs by hand. The Daiku believe that through this long and tiring process do we repay our debt to Nature. It is the belief of traditional Japanese carpenters that a tree must be put to use in a way that assures its continued existence, preferably as a thing of beauty to be treasured for centuries.

With this spirit of coexisting with nature can we build a structure that will endure and uplift. At Kaya it is our passion to build you the perfect home.
